How have yogis been doing 108 sun salutations in the class? 108 seems to be a daunting number when it comes to sun salutations. But it is not impossible. I have been running this program for a year now and here are few tips that help yogis to get through the program.
Clear intention: I always ask yogis why they w
ant to join the program. Once you know your intention of doing 108 sun salutations, it guides and leads you from one sun sal to the next.
The mantras: In my class we practice Sun salutations on mantras. The 12 mantras are praise of different qualities of the Sun and add a profound spiritual touch to the entire practice.
Modifications: Ashima is what we follow in the class. We do this practice to serve us and not to hurt us. There are certain poses which might not work with your body. I suggest modifications and exercises that help to attend these postures. If you have lower back pain avoid deep backbends or bend into your knees while folding forward. There are these minor adjustments among many others, which I recommend to help yogis get the benefits of the practice without hurting the body
Breaks: we take breaks after a certain number of sun salutations and do yoga poses to relax the body and connect with breath and end the practice in Shavasana
